The Bread Shop
In the immersive performance The Bread Shop, the audience will be transported into a unique experience, as if they were in a real-life bread factory. Each audience member will take on the role of a worker in the factory and experience the intensity and energy of the factory's operations.
When the audience steps into the theatre, the first thing that strikes them is the scene of a bakery: the huge bread oven emits weak heat, simulating the temperature inside the factory; the mechanical devices are constantly running, as if silently telling the rhythm of the industry. And the whole room is inspired by the ant's anthill. The wall decorations present meandering passages and tunnels, making the audience feel as if they are in an anthill.
Viewers will be divided into two routes to choose from: one is to follow the main workflow and experience the whole process from flour to bread; the other is to explore the hidden corners of the factory and discover the details and secrets of the workers' daily lives.
In the main line workflow, the audience will play the role of workers in different positions, receiving instructions from the reception area, entering the bakery room for mixing and moulding the dough, then going to the oven to take charge of baking, and finally delivering the freshly baked bread to the shipping area. Each part of the process requires audience participation and co-operation, making the whole performance more vivid and realistic.
And in the Discovery Line, the audience will have the opportunity to go into the hidden areas of the factory and explore the private space and daily life of the workers. They may find a worker's notebook in a small corner, recording the little moods at work; or a forgotten corner piled up with discarded bread moulds and broken tools, witnessing the changes of the factory over the years.
Whichever route is chosen, the audience will be immersed in the world of The Bread Shop, experiencing the hard work and lives of the workers. This immersive performance is not only an artistic experience, but also a tribute and reflection on the industrial era.
